John Walker's Five-Star Review of Boxer Hobo

John Walker's 5*****Star Review of Boxer Hobo

I'm stoked! I've just received a fantastic five-star review on Amazon by the brilliant author of Wrath and Remembrance, John Walker!
How great is that!

Here it is, Review of my book; Boxer Hobo by John Walker:

*****A knock out!, June 1, 2012
by DarkWords (Paris, France) - See all my reviews
This review is from Boxer Hobo (The Hobo Chronicles) (Kindle Edition)

When self-styled professional boxer and hobo, Johnny Noctor, regains consciousness in hospital the world is never the same for him. Johnny has sustained a fractured skull and serious brain injury and there's a question on how he got that way. The doctors assume that he must have fallen over while drunk, but Johnny suspects that he's been viciously assaulted. Frustrated by excuses and bureaucratic resistance, he hits the streets again with the firm intention of finding his assailant himself. Author, Johnny Noctor, knows how to write with a sardonic and often poetic wit: "I'm Noctor, where's the doctor? ... I'm not robo, I'm hobo ... Doctor Dunn, are you married to a nun?" But along with the humor, there's a serious story being told. Intelligent, sharp, wry and reminiscent of Charles Bukowski's tales from the hard, alcohol-hazed side of life on the fringes of society, Johnny shines a light on so-called friends who only know how to use, take and then discard, along with the ugliness of an apathetic society and corruption in a sport he loves and values, while he struggles against his own demons, works hard to be a positive role model to his children and survives the brutalities of life on the cold, concrete streets where death stalks invisibly in the form of The Nothing, searching for the next easy victim. But Johnny refuses to be a victim, and however hard he got knocked down, he was never out for the count. His resolute, never-say-die attitude has to be admired as he triumphs over adversity when many other men would have crumbled and thrown in the proverbial towel. Life, especially when complicated by injury and the misery of addiction, can be the hardest fight of all.

Thank you, John Walker, I really appreciate this more than you know. Here's a link to the great writer John Walker's Blog: Here

Smokin' Joe Frazier!

What a Great 5*****Star Read!

Smokin' Joe: The Autobiography of a Heavyweight Champion of the World, Smokin' Joe Frazier.

I’ve seen all of Joe Frazier’s fights and watched them dozens of times, so when I finished reading his great autobiography in the Hobart library in Tasmania, I dreamed of meeting him one day when The Hobo invades America. I read his autobiography just six months before he passed away and I caught this photo of his book in my hand. My Higher Power, Mt Wellington, is seen in the background through the library window. Joe Frazier’s book was fantastic and I loved reading about his hard childhood before his boxing days, and though he was poor, he had a wonderful family. Smokin Joe had a great sense of humour, both in-and-out of the ring and was obviously as funny as Jerry Lewis and Muhammad Ali. I loved Joe Frazier’s hilarious and absorbing literature, especially the part about bug-eyed nut-balls and whipping scamboogas and such.

Six months after reading this inspiring book, I cried when hearing of the planet's best heavyweight passing away. Philadelphia lost its greatest heavyweight champion and I'm saddened because now I’ll never get to meet this compassionate and kind man who treated everyone as an equal, and after reading his story, I know that he wouldn’t treat a homeless boxer any different to a rich one, which is unlike the way I’ve been treated. Maybe the spirit of Smokin' Joe will join me on my next run up my Higher Power, Mt Wellington, along with Bon Scott from ACDC.

There should be a statue at the top of the Philadelphia steps of the great Joe Frazier, the real heavyweight champion of the world, not some actor.

I hope the Frazier family are all okay and I thank them for keeping Smokin' Joe’s legacy strong for all of his fans.

Boxing Promoters

Even though The Hobo hasn't had a drink this year, Johnny Noctor,  Australia's homeless boxer, is still sleeping in his swag.

Since New-Years Eve, I've been running up mountains and done a hundred rounds of sparring. It's about time some of these smart trainers and promoters started filming and exposing what Boxer Hobo is really like when in shape and off the grog. I can easily prove that this registered fighter can't get matched up in Australia even when bashing everyone in the gym. Fight!

June Bourgo wrote about Boxer Hobo

It's great to get a great review of your book, but one wonderful lady has gone even further. After giving my book Boxer Hobo a five-star review on Amazon, she's now promoted my book on her blog. That's unbelievable, but I really appreciated it. I'm stoked! And I always take my hat off to a lady, so thank you, Ms June Bourgo.

You can read what this wonderful lady wrote about The Hobo on her website.

New Book Giveaway

I've just given away a paperback copy of my book Boxer Hobo to an American reader on Goodreads. I now have a paperback Giveaway for and Australian reader on Goodreads. So if any Australians out there would like a copy, click on the link at the right hand side of my blog or go to Goodreads to enter.

Though I'm off the grog, have recovered from my brain injury and I'm fighting fit from running up my Higher Power, Mt Wellington, in Hobart, no Australian boxing promoter will give The Hobo a fair fight, well not when he's sober and running the mountain. The ones that did get me fights were only interested when I was on the grog, sick from my brain injury, and sleeping in my swag.

I've just spent the last week in Hobart, running up the mountain and I'm still not drinking.

Help The Hobo stay clean and sober and safe so he can feed his kids. Buy the $2.99 eBook or even the paperback. You'll at least get a good laugh and maybe even save my life.

The Hobo is Real!

I Will Recover from my Brain Injury!

I will stay off The Grog!

Only Halfway up, but I'll make it to the Top!

The Pinnacle is Mine! Fight!

Running up My Higher Power Mt Wellington in Tasmania

The Hobo's 'Highway to Hell'
Bon Scott reminds Johnny Noctor that,
'Hell aint No Bad Place to Be'

To heal my brain injury and keep me off the grog, I regularly run up Mt Wellington in Hobart. It's my higher power.

As you can see from my Hobo shadow, I carry a digital camera and film my runs with my outstretched hand, all the while listening to ACDC.

Getting to the top is exhilarating.

Celebration dance, listening to ACDC.

Going back down is just as hard when you take the track

Not too great when The Hobo sprains his ankle though.

The Hobo always has Angus to help him.

Fight!
